LAEF Events
There are a great many LAEF events that take place over the course of each academic year. The purpose of some is to generate funds so that the Foundation is able to provide financing for grants proposed by our schools' teachers. The three major LAEF fund-raising activities that produce these monies are the Annual Wine Tasting (Fall), the annual Friends of the LAEF direct mail fund-raising campaign (Fall), and our Annual Auction & Benefit Party (Spring). As tickets to the auction and wine tasting tend to move quickly, we will post the dates and locations for the purchase of tickets here so that you are given a chance to attend.
There are also a great many events that receive full or partial funding from the LAEF as part of the grant process and the public is welcome to attend these events. Plays such as "The Tempest", performances such as the "String of Pearls" black-light theatre, the Fourth Grade Photography Exhibit and the annual outing to the Trenton Thunder are typical examples. In this section we will also list these sorts of activities and we strongly encourage members of the community to attend. This is a great opportunity to see the wonderful things that your support of the LAEF enables us to do on behalf of our community's children.

Foundation Awards Grants to SHRHS
The Lambertville Area Education Foundation (LAEF) continues
to provide grants to enrich the educational experience of SHRHS students.
At its January meeting, the LAEF board of directors approved
two grants providing specialized equipment for science courses. The first was a $1,000 grant to purchase a
spectrophotometer for AP chemistry classes. The device measures properties of light
over a specific portion of the electromagnetic spectrum and is typically used in
spectroscopic analysis to identify materials.
The second was a $2,600 grant to purchase an air track for use in
physics classes. Air tracks measure
velocity, acceleration and change in momentum in low friction environments.
At the same meeting, the board approved a grant of $6,900
for film production equipment and software for use in the English Department’s
film courses. The purchase includes two
digital video cameras, four digital camcorders, an iMac Quadcore computer, to
be used solely for film editing, and film-editing software.
The board also approved a grant of $800 for a Jazz Workshop by the Eric Mintel Quartet. The May 21 workshop,
for students in all music classes, will demonstrate rock, swing and Latin
styles and invite questions and comments from students.
An earlier LAEF grant of $800 funded the recent Festival of
the Arts at the high school, an effort to encourage and promote the artistic
talents of students.
Additional grants announced earlier this school year
included $3,000 for purchase of an on-line reference bookshelf for grades 7-12;
$3,500 for participation of SHRHS students in McCarter Theater’s Youth Ink
Playwriting Residency Program; and $2,000 to support the second annual Night at
the Nest student activity program.
The LAEF, founded in 1992, is a non-profit organization
dedicated to benefiting students at Lambertville Public School, West Amwell
Township School, Stockton Borough School and South Hunterdon Regional High
School. The Foundation is run entirely by volunteers, and virtually 100
percent of its income is expended in grants.
The organization welcomes contacts from community members
who would like to contribute money, goods or time to the organization. Potential supporters should contact Michelene Assad at michassad@yahoo.com.
