About the LAEF
The Lambertville Area Education Foundation is a testament to what a
community can accomplish when it is determined to make a difference. What
originally began as an organization (LEF) whose sole purpose was to support
the Lambertville Public School found its success eventually leading it to
expand (LAEF) to support South Hunterdon Regional High School, Stockton Borough School and West
Amwell Elementary School. The Foundation now serves all the elementary districts that eventually send their children to SHRHS.
The LAEF is an all volunteer, 501(c)3, private non-profit, and it has only
been able to achieve its many accomplishments because of community support
and involvement. Those who volunteer as board members are only the visible
tip of the iceberg. A great many other individuals offer their time, money,
and energies to our fund raising and program activities.
What follows is the LAEF story. It is a true tale of what can be done when
a community puts its mind to it.
LEF/LAEF History: A Timeline
1991
|
10/1991 Phil Mackey, Lambertville resident and local education foundation expert for the New Jersey School Boards Association makes a presentation on local education foundations at the NJSBA annual convention in Atlantic City. Dave Moraski, Lambertville resident and member of the Lambertville Public School Board of Education is in attendance and is inspired by what Phil says about the power of community members to make a positive impact on their public schools. After the meeting, Dave approaches Phil and asks him to help establish such an organization in Lambertville. Phil is more than willing. He eventually becomes one of the charter members of the LEF and remains to this day an active board member of the LAEF.
11/1991 The first meeting of the Lambertville Local Education Foundation Steering Committee. Charlie Huchet, Gail Richardson, Mike Matturro, Terri Marriott, Dave Moraski & Phil Mackey convened a meeting to formally discuss what would be involved in creating a local education foundation. Ideas for grants to offer, ways to raise funds and how to incorporate as a non-profit were among the topics discussed. They would meet every few weeks in the coming months to create a mission statement, draft bylaws, and consider names and other matters, setting the stage for officially creating a yet to be named local education foundation. |
